This paper describes a classroom experience that analyzes reading levels and the use of the MOODLE platform at a higher-education institution. It seeks to identify the reading level of university students entering their first semester; it also aims to characterize the reading level of first-semester students and analyze the impact of the MOODLE platform on students; reading and writing levels. This descriptive study is based on a convenience sample of 21 students from different disciplines enrolled in a first-semester reading and writing course. It applied a reading level questionnaire, elaborated ad hoc, and then followed the students’ logins to the Moodle platform. Among the findings it was determined that the use of Moodle can contribute in a didactic way to the development of reading skills. The activities proposed in Moodle, appear as resources that help the students to reflect on their own learning processes. Finally, this experience responds to the needs for the changing and digitized educational environment.
