Sense of community as a promoter of community resilience in city dwellers at risk from natural disasters

This research had the objective of knowing the community strategies that the citizens of the city of Ibagué, Colombia have to face traumatic situations, such as the experience of living some kind of natural disaster, taking into account the numerous risks that the city is exposed to in this matter. For this study, a mixed research design was chosen, which facilitates the triangulation of the information collected and a systematic logic for the analysis of the information. 400 inhabitants of the city of Ibagué, who were of age, participated in the study. Ten focal groups were held and the sense of community, attachment and identity of the place was measured. The results allow us to suppose that the people who participated present moderate levels of the variables evaluated through the scales, which is supported by the manifestations of the participants of the focal group. This guides the need to create processes of community integration and participation through group intervention strategies.
